With software created with Casper Go and Sylvia Ke, I use eye-tracking data to generate tattoo designs based on sentimental imagery provided and looked at by clients. Playing with the permanence of tattoo and the fleeting nature of memory, I tattoos one’s impression of a photo rather than the photo itself. In this project, rapid eye movements are captured, translated into a design through TouchDesigner, and etched into the skin. With Saccade, looking at and looking back are captured in a freeze frame. Using tattooing as a framework for oral history, I also record short interviews with my client describing the photo’s significance.
